version 1.30 Compiled 02/24/96
MSTAT is NOT compatible with Wildcat! versions before 4.0
Another public domain utility for Wildcat! SysOps
from the Charlatan's Cabin BBS
(213) 654-7337
WHAT IT DOES:
=============
MSTAT produces a color bulletin listing all of your active mail conferences,
including the number of active messages, the oldest and newest message dates,
and the low and high message numbers in the conference. It will also insert
text files immediately before any of your conferences, which you might use as
"group headers" in the display file. You may create COLOR and non-COLOR
versions of these files ... see below.
WHAT IT DOESN'T DO:
===================
Missing from this release of MSTAT for Wildcat! 4.x are the following
features:
a) The program doesn't currently report user participation in conferences.
This will be added in a future version (when I figure out how!)
b) The program doesn't produce a RENUM.BAT file ... because wcPACK cannot
run while Wildcat! nodes are active, this process must be done by the
sysop. We recommend a periodic review of one of the files (you could
create one named "MESSAGE.HI" in your \wc directory and check to see
which conferences are approaching the level at which you'd like to
renumber them. Wildcat! supports message numbers up to 65,535 ... so
chances are you won't need to renumber too frequently.
SETTING UP:
===========
First, be sure that MAKEWILD.DAT, and CONFDESC.DAT are in a directory
that is in your DOS path.
Next, edit the MSTAT.CFG file to suit your preferences. Here's a sample
of the configuration file format. MSTAT.CFG is also included in this .ZIP
file.
TEXTPATH=c:\wc\textfile\
OUTFILE=c:\wc\bull\bull49.bbs /cls /text /pause /EXCLUDE=3-5
OUTFILE=c:\wc\bull\bull50.bbs /cls /text /enter /EXCLUDE=31-85,99-104
OUTFILE=c:\wc\message.hi
The line beginning with TEXTPATH= is the complete drive and pathname where
the optional text files for MSTAT will be stored. These files will be
inserted into the display file as described in the documentation under
"TEXT FILE INSERTION."
Lines beginning with "OUTFILE=" name and describe the output files to be
written. Be sure to include the complete drive and pathname, and any of
the appropriate switches and configuration items:
/CLS will cause the program to begin the file with the appropriate
clear screen code, either the Wildcat! '@CLS@' if the file
type is .BBS or .RIP, or a formfeed for other file types.
/TEXT will cause the program to insert text files into the output
file.
/PAUSE will cause the program to end the file with the Wildcat!
'@PAUSE@' code.
/ENTER will cause the program to end the file with the Wildcat!
'@ENTER@' code.
/EXCLUDE will cause the program to SKIP any file areas listed. You
may exclude individual conferences separated by commas, or
ranges of files separated by a hyphen.
TEXT FILE INSERTION:
====================
You may insert text files into the display file immediately ahead of any
conference number(s) ... you might use these to group the conferences into
specific networks or other categories. The files are placed into the
directory named in the configuration file's TEXTPATH= line ... and their
name indicates where they'll be placed, for example: MST00501.BBS
How the file name works: All text files begin with "MST", followed by
a five-digit conference number, ranging from 00000 to 32759. The file
extension must match the type of output file being written ... such as
a .BBS extension for a bulletin, or a .RIP extension. BE SURE to use
a FIVE-DIGIT conference number, such as "MST00004.BBS" or the file will
NOT be found! For obvious reasons, you should include Wildcat! color
codes ONLY in .BBS or .RIP file types, and include RIPscrip codes ONLY
in .RIP file types.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
====================
After the configuration file is prepared, you may run MSTAT from the
directory where you placed it ... usually C:\WC40. It will find its
configuration file and MAKEWILD.DAT anywhere in the DOS PATH and will
use those files to find the other needed reference files.

PROBLEMS, SUGGESTIONS:
This program is public domain. I don't seek or accept any donations or
registration fees for any of my Wildcat! utility programs, including
TODAYBBS, NEWFLOP, NETBULL, USTAT, and others ... however I invite you
to read the short textfile "CHARWARE.TXT" enclosed in this ZIPfile. It
suggests that you make a contribution to YOUR favorite charity if you
find this program useful.
Current versions of all Cabin SysOp Utilities may be obtained from the
Charlatan's Cabin BBS at (213) 654-7337, or from Mustang Software's BBS,
(805) 873-2400, or via telnet to Mustang's server on the Internet. Their
address is "bbs.mustang.com"
I welcome suggestions, and will try to help (no guarantees) if there are
problems. Be sure to include specific information, including the
version number of this program, and the Wildcat! version number, when
you report problems. A report such as "I downloaded it and it doesn't
work" doesn't give me much to go on!
You may contact me at The Charlatan's Cabin BBS (213) 654-7337. Mention
your Wildcat! registration number in a "Comment to the SysOp" and you'll
be upgraded to visiting sysop level without the usually required
registration by mail.
My Internet address is: michael.conley@cabin.com
I also regularly check the Mustang Software headquarters BBS, especially
the "3rd Party Utilities Help" conference.
Please, NO VOICE CALLS. This isn't meant to be unfriendly, but since I
derive NO income from these programs, I just can't afford to be "on
call." I WILL respond to your questions via my BBS, Internet,
or via the Mustang Software registered SysOp BBS.
